Meet the Massage Therapists

Ruth Boo Neal Perkins, NCMT

Massage has been part of Ruth 'Boo' Neal Perkins entire life. Growing up in a medically oriented family, she has always been interested in helping others and in the health care world. Massage therapy is her way to contribute to both. After she graduated from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in 1996, she decided to attend Phoenix Therapeutic Massage College (PTMC) in Phoenix, Arizona, a nationally accredited school that has been educating massage therapists for years. Following graduation from the 1,150-hour program at PTMC, she was fortunate to be the youngest massage therapist at the Ritz Carlton in Phoenix. It was a great experience and she learned an enormous amount from the seasoned therapists there. One of the best parts of the job was massaging a number of famous political, sports, musical and theatrical celebrities.

In addition to the knowledge and techniques Boo learned out west, when she returned to Richmond she gained new approaches from working as an assistant to a physical therapy practice. She knew she wanted to stay in her hometown of Richmond and decided to start her own practice. While building her practice Boo enjoyed doing pain management lectures and women's wellness workshops. She had a thriving practice for over three years.

After she had her first child she decided to work with the team at Doctors- Chiropractic & Rehab. We are happy to have her join our team because of her invaluable experience in massage therapy.

Maggie Simpson, NCMTB

Maggie has always had a passion for helping others. She has been an avid fund raiser, participant and volunteer for many nonprofit organizations over the years including: The United Way, St. Jude's Hospital, Parkinson's Research Foundation, AIDS Walk, Breast Cancer Walk and the Life with Cancer Run. It is her true calling to be able to give to others. Being introduced to massage as a young adult, Maggie realized she could change lives through the power of massage therapy.

Upon graduation from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2006 with a degree in Parks, Recreation and Sports Management, Maggie knew she had the foundation to continue her education on the path to a healthcare career. IN 2008 she enrolled at the Institute of Massage Therapies here in Richmond and graduated at the top of her class. Prior to graduation, Maggie had the opportunity to begin working at a local spa as well as joining the Advanced Wellness Centre. She takes great interest in orthopedic and sports massage which is complemented by her background in neuromuscular therapy and myofacial release.

Maggie has found her true calling in life and practices what she believes. She lives her daily life embracing a philosophy of well-being where mind, body and spirit are in balance, each contributing to a holistic sense of health and happiness. Maggie has always enjoyed the great outdoors (she even worked as a zoologist at the Maymont Foundation) and has a love for all things active. She is constantly seeking her next great adventure in life!
